Women are involved in all parts of society, but some matters affect and touch women more than others. Matters such as gender inequality and domestic issues are prevalent in South Africa amongst women. This has resulted in the creation of a gap that affects the current economy. As women are the backbone and bedrock of society, justice is demanded to restore female status. As the world enters the fourth industrial revolution, women can no longer be spectators but need to be active participants in this emerging economy.
Rationale & Project Description
The Women in ICT & Entrepreneurship project creates an opportunity for women to get access to acquire digital skills. These skills will provide a knowledge base to conduct their business online. Therefore, I-CAN Centre, managed by non-profit organization Genesis Community IT Initiative, located in Elsies River, has piloted a unique project for “Women in ICT & Entrepreneurship” that will empower women with digital skills. Amongst other things, the digital skills will also play a pivotal role in eradicating poverty and socio-economic challenges.
